About 20 of the MidAtlantic’s top wheelchair tennis players competed against each other Saturday at a Wilmington tournament. Although the matches were tense, the participants said it is the friendships, not the competition, that keeps them coming back every year.
“I like coming here and talking to the different people,” said Cristobal Rivera, of Valley Stream, New York, who took up wheelchair tennis after a 2006 gunshot wound left him paralyzed.
